Tonight at 6pm, The New York Memory Center (199 14th Street, between 4th and 5th Aves) is offering families with Alzheimer’s an evening of artistic expression with the second installment of their monthly “Memory Arts Cafe.”

Under the guidance of visiting artists — tonight it’s poet Gary Glazner and MoMa Alzheimer’s Project educator Laurel Humble — patients and their loved ones will work together to create new works of art. And according to the Center’s executive director, Christopher Nadeau, the arts offer big potential benefits. As he told DNAinfo:

There is life after diagnosis and there is a life worth living that can be rich and rewarding,” Nadeau said. “(The arts) really invigorates folks in a way that respects and honors the person for their uniqueness. It creates a level of cohesion and empowerment and energy that you just can’t explain.

The event is free and open to the public, no registration required. For more info, call The New York Memory Center at (718) 499-7701.
