Memorial Day Weekend Events

While many consider Memorial Day to be the first day of summer, take a moment this holiday weekend to honor our service members, both past and present.

If you’re staying in town, NYC beaches re-open for the season on Saturday, May 25. There is also the Memorial Day Parade in Bay Ridge and a Memorial Day Concert at Green-Wood Cemetery scheduled for Monday.

BROOKLYN’S 152ND KINGS COUNTY MEMORIAL DAY PARADE, starts at 78th Street & Third Avenue in Bay Ridge, May 27, 11am: Join the nation’s oldest continuous Memorial Day Parade for its 152nd year, with marching bands, bagpipes, floats, military units, sailors, and more. This year’s Grand Marshal will be former NYS Senator Marty Golden.

ANNUAL MEMORIAL DAY CONCERT at Green-Wood Cemetery, May 27, 2:30pm to 5pm [Free]: Bring a blanket and enjoy Green-Wood’s 21st annual Memorial Day concert featuring the NYC Symphonic Band at Third Street. Each year performers play the works of Green-Wood’s permanent residents including Fred Ebb, Louis Moreau Gottschalk, and Leonard Bernstein.

The following will be closed on Monday, May 27:

• Government offices and courts will be closed

• There will be no mail delivery

• All city public schools will be closed

• Alternate side parking and parking meters will be suspended

• MTA subways and buses will operate on a Sunday schedule

There will be no garbage, recycling, or organics pickup. If Monday is your garbage day, put your garbage out after 4pm Monday evening. If Monday is your recycling day, place your recycling items on the curb after 4pm on Sunday, June 2 for collection on Monday, June 3. If Monday is your organics day, put your items out for your next organics collection day.

• All Brooklyn Public Library locations will be closed from Saturday, May 25 through Monday, May 27.
