Meeting About Possible Dog Run In The Area

Talk about a dog run somewhere in the Ditmas Park/Kensington/Windsor Terrace area has been going on for years, and it’s just about to begin again, thanks to dog advocacy group FIDO. A member of the group, Lynn, will be hosting a short meeting on Friday, July 12 at noon at 346 Coney Island Ave to gather interested dog owners and to begin to talk about possible locations around the Parade Ground, possibly by the police station.

Anyone is welcome to attend the meeting, but she needs to get some RSVPs to gauge community support, otherwise she won’t hold the meeting. Contact Lynn at lpradov@mindspring.com for more info.

While neighbors have wondered for some time now about the possibility of adding a dog run in the area, it seems like it’s been fairly difficult to pull off. In 2009, a group was attempting to create a run near Greenwood Playground, then in 2011 a Windsor Terrace dog owner tried to gain support and funding for a run in the Parade Ground through an online contest. And at the end of 2011, during the Participatory Budgeting session with Council Member Brad Lander, delegates learned from the Park Department that a dog run “can cost as much as $600,000 between drainage requirements, fencing, and land grading among other considerations.”

So, do you think we could use a dog run?
