Meet the Man with the Trees: Nicholas Debois
Nicholas Debois has spent December in South Slope for years now, but how much do you really know about him? We took a few minutes last week to learn a bit more about the man with the trees on 9th Street between 5th and 6th Aves:
Where are your originally from? I’m from Quebec.
Is that where your Christmas trees come from? Our tress come from Nova Scotia, but we also have some from New Brunswick and North Carolina.
What are the different varieties of trees that you have? We have Douglas fir, Balsam fir and Fraser fir.
What size ranges do you offer? We have some really small ones, like 2 feet, and we have some that go all the way up to 15 feet.
What is the price range for trees? Roughly $20 to around $350.
How long have you guys been coming here? We’ve been coming here for 13 years now.
Wow! To the same spot? Yea, the same spot. We really feel like part of the neighborhood.
What do you like best about South Slope? People are friendly. They bring us food and sometimes we have to say, “No, we’ve got too much lunch already.” It’s just a really nice area.
Be sure to stop by and say hello to our seasonal local, Nicholas and his firs on 9th Street.
