The “London Olympics” are wrapping up, but the Grand Army Plaza Greenmarket‘s “Farmer Olympics” are just getting started. Celebrating incredible feats of (local food-related) athleticism, the market will host a number of events throughout the day, including the Watermelon Seed Spitting Contest, the Compost Target Toss, and Farmer Arm Wrestling. You got what it takes? Stop by the market info tent all day to compete. Opening ceremonies (probably sans 30 Mary Poppins) kick off at 10am; closing ceremonies wrap things up at 1pm. Winners get glory — winners + everyone else get ultra-fresh local produce, composting, and textile recycling until 4pm today.
