May 3, 2009: Shredfest 2009

Do you have paper to shred and would like to make a party out of it? Here is the information (and some fine print) for the 2nd Annual Shredfest happening tomorrow at Bensonhurst Park at Cropsey Avenue and Bay 29th Street.

Just take your documents (check below for the type of papers it’s okay to shred) to the park, be one of the first five to show up and possibly win a free shredder donated by Staples.

The Shredfest is happening here in South Brooklyn and in more than one location around New York City and the boroughs, so check the website for all the details.

It’s your identity. PROTECT IT!

10 am – 4 pm
Shred your personal papers FOR FREE at a location near you.
*FREE paper shredders donated by Staples for the first 5 people to arrive with their papers at each location.
Shred Fest is a collaboration of the Department of Consumer Affairs (DCA), the Mayor’s Office of the Criminal Justice Coordinator (CJC), Department of Parks and Recreation, and Department of Sanitation.
Special thanks to Brink’s Document Destruction, Code Shred, SafeGuard Document Destruction, and USA Shred for donating the mobile shredding trucks for the event, and to Staples for their generous donation of personal shredders.
*Free paper shredders will be given to the first five non-New York City employees who come to a Shred Fest site with papers to shred. DCA/CJC volunteers will determine eligibility and distribute numbers (1-5) to eligible individuals at each Shred Fest location. At 10 am, when Shred Fest begins, individuals holding numbers (1-5) will each be given one free paper shredder. If more than five people are present at a Shred Fest site when DCA/CJC volunteers first arrive, volunteers will use their best judgment to determine free paper shredder recipients. Under no circumstances may New York City employees receive a free paper shredder. All volunteers will ask potential recipients where they work. Volunteers will ask recipients to fill out a form.
