Borough Park Couple Die in Early Monday Blaze

BOROUGH PARK — A married couple died and their teenage daughter was injured in a Borough Park house fire this morning, Monday, Aug 28.

The FDNY received a 911 call at 3:47 am reporting a residential fire at 1174 44th Street, located a block and a half from the FDNY Engine282/Ladder148. First unit was on scene 4 minutes and one second later, FDNY said.

By the time firefighters got there, Yeshiva World News reports that the fire had spread to the second story. The fire was extinguished by 5:54 am, and a total of 33 units and 138 firefighters responded to the three alarm fire, according to the FDNY.

Responders found three individuals at the scene of the fire, and took them to Maimonides Hospital. Residents Howard and Evelyn Gluck, 61 and 59 years old, were pronounced dead at the hospital, said the FDNY.

The third victim, their 17-year old daughter according to the Daily News, is in stable condition. Five firefighters sustained injuries fighting the blaze, with one suffering from serious but non-life threatening smoke inhalation, said the FDNY.
