Maria ‘The Ice Cream Girl’ Hosting Canned Food Drive This Friday

Here’s another way to help out the less fortunate this holiday season.

Maria “The Ice Cream Girl” Campanella will be holding her annual holiday food drive on Friday, November 20, 5:30pm – 8pm. Those wishing to donate non perishable food items can find Maria at the corner of West 10th Street and Avenue U.

This is the third time Campanella has organized the event, each year partnering up with a different local organization, like Bensonhurst Ambulance and Food Bank NYC.

“We gotta keep on doing things to help people,” she told us. “Theres a lot of people in our own neighborhoods who don’t have food, there’s alot of people who count on these pantries for food and you never know when its going to strike you. Whether it’s hunger or disease, we gotta keep on helping and just do it — do whatever it takes.”

Reaching-out Community Services is also hosting its annual Operation Gobbler this year, during which it will give out more than 600 turkeys to needy families. More information on how to contribute can be found here.
