Manhattan Shoes Moves Out To Avenue Z
Manhattan Shoes, which sold “European ladies shoes” – which does not mean they only sold shoes to European ladies – has moved from its 2610 East 16th Street storefront to a new location around the corner.
The owners have now set up shop at 1414 Avenue Z – the same address as the long-running Italian Discount Shoes & Things For Men. It’s not yet clear if the two businesses are merging and will now sell shoes for both genders, or if it’s totally replacing Italian Discount.
That means that the entire building at the corner of East 16th Street and Avenue Z – whose tenants once included the Sheepshead Bay Gourmet Market and The Learning Wheel – is now almost completely empty. Abe’s Frame Shoppe and Hair’s What We Do are the only tenants remaining. The owners of the property – Waldorf Realty Co. – have been attempting to free up the entire property to hopefully lease it to one large landlord, capitalizing on the planned development of Station Plaza, as Sheepshead Bites reported last September.
At that time, the owners of Manhattan Shoes – as well as Abe’s – told us they had no plans to vacate. But, then again, it could possibly have less to do with the new real estate plans and more to do with a business decision to merge with Italian Discount. Regardless, good luck to them in their new location!
