The NYPD is looking for two suspects who attacked and robbed a man on Avenue M early Monday morning.
The incident took place around 12:45am on Monday, December 28. A 55-year-old man, who Assembly member Dov Hikind identified as Eli, was walking in front of 809 Avenue M near East 8th Street when two men approached him from behind. One man punched the victim in the head, knocked him down, and continued to punch and kick him.
Then both suspects went through the man’s pockets, taking his wallet and fleeing on Avenue M toward Ocean Parkway. The victim was taken treated at Maimonides Medical Center for scratches and contusions to the head, knees and hands.
Police describe the suspects as light skinned men with thin builds and wearing hooded sweatshirts.
Local politicians showed outrage at the crime and have offered rewards for information regarding the suspects.
“This is a shockingly brutal robbery in the heart of our Midwood community. It is heartbreaking that, especially during the holiday season, outrageous crimes like this are happening in our very own backyard. We can’t tolerate these kinds of crimes in New York City. My many thanks to Hatzalah and Shomrim who responded immediately to the victim’s call,” said Council member David Greenfield, who is offering a $1,000 reward.
Assembly member Dov Hikind and State Senator Simcha Felder have also offered a $3,000 reward.
Anyone with information regarding the incident is asked to call the NYPD’s Crime Stoppers Hotline at 800-577-TIPS. The public can also submit their tips by logging onto the Crime Stoppers website, www.nypdcrimestoppers.com or texting their tips to 274637(CRIMES) then entering TIP577.
