Man Shot To Death Outside Elementary School On Snyder Avenue

The NYPD is investigating a shooting outside of P.S. 6 last night, August, which left a 38-year-old man dead from bullets to the back of his head; a death that cops believe was retribution for a stolen baseball cap.

The victim, Gerald Cummings, was standing with four men when an argument broke out among them, say cops. One person drew a gun and fired, hitting Cummings twice in the head and once in the back, outside of 43 Snyder Avenue between Bedford and Flatbush Avenues, on Wednesday at 10:18pm.

The victim was rushed to Kings County Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Cops believe that the shooting was related to a robbery that involved Cumming’s son. On July 30, the teenage boy’s baseball cap was stolen on Martense Street near Flatbush Avenue. One of the four men in the argument was seen wearing what appeared to be the stolen hat, according to a police spokesperson.

A police investigation is ongoing.

Though the group was in front of the school, the incident did not happen on school grounds, said a police spokesperson. There are three other schools nearby, Erasmus High School, Science Technology and Research High School, and Get Set Kindergarten.

There have been two reported stabbings, one where a teenager stabbed his stepfather on East 19th Street, and other where a man’s body was found in an alley with chest wounds.
