A 71-year-old man was struck and killed last night while crossing 13th Avenue in Dyker Heights, said cops.
The man was crossing midblock between 83rd and 84th Streets at 7pm on April 5 when he was hit by a silver Toyota minivan driving south on 13th Avenue, police reported. The impact dented one side of the car and shattered the front windshield, according to photos by the NY Daily News.
When officers arrived, they found the man unconscious in the roadway with trauma to his head and body. There was a trail of blood left on the street, reports the Daily.
The victim was rushed to Maimonides Medical Center where he was pronounced dead on arrival. The driver remained at the scene, but so far there have been no arrests reported.
Since 2009, there have been 58 traffic-related injuries in the few blocks between 86th and 83rd Streets on 13th Avenue, according to city data. Most of them happened at the corner of 86th Street at the edge of Dyker Beach Park.
