Man Fatally Stabbed And Shot On Corner Of 4th & Atlantic

BOERUM HILL – A Staten Island man was killed in front of the Dunkin’ Donuts on the southwest corner of 4th and Atlantic Avenues Wednesday evening.

Police responded to the scene at approximately 8:20pm on September 20 where they found 47-year-old Steven Vargas unconscious and unresponsive with a stab wound and three gunshot wounds to his chest, a NYPD representative said.

EMS transported Vargas to Brooklyn Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

A witness told the New York Daily News that Vargas bought a cup of coffee at the Dunkin’ Donuts just before the incident. According to the paper, witnesses described the shooter as a white man, in his 50s, with a beard. He was wearing a green shirt, green jacket, and white shorts.

Investigators believe Vargas may have gotten into a dispute with the suspect prior to the incident, the police representative said.

No arrests have been made yet. The investigation is ongoing.
