[Update 3/21: Police have arrested two 21-year-old men in connection with this assault, who have been charged with gang assault, robbery, and menacing.]
A man was critically injured after being pummeled and then robbed at a fried chicken joint on Ocean Avenue after he offered to pitch in money for his attacker’s meals.
Four men attacked a 37-year-old man inside the Texas Chicken and Burgers at 521 Ocean Avenue and Church Avenue, on Wednesday, March 1, around 7:30pm, said cops.
The spat began when the victim offered to help pay for their meal — they were only a few dollars short, according to reports.
But the two men, allegedly offended by the offer, walked over to the victim, ripped him from his booth and began attacking him while two others ran into the restaurant and joined the brawl. The four men began punching him and striking him with his cane, before it escalated into kicking his head and body, said cops.
Then, as the victim lay collapsed on the floor, another man saunters into the restaurant, rolls him over and appears to rob him, video surveillance shows. The video also shows customers walking in and out of the restaurant over the victim’s prone body.
The victim was rushed to the hospital, where he was treated for broken bones, contusions, and lacerations.
