Malik Sportswear, the clothing and shoe store at 511 5th Avenue, between 12th and 13th Streets, has closed, and the storefront is up for rent.

We spotted people clearing out the space yesterday afternoon, and the awning has come down and there’s a for rent sign up in the window.

Ideal Properties has the listing for the 2,000-square-foot space, which is priced at $9,200 per month. That seems about on line with another recent vacancy, the space further up 5th that will soon be home to Excelsior, which is about 800 square feet smaller and was listed for $7,300.

The listing suggests it’s a “perfect space for a new eatery.” Do you agree, or is there some other business you think this block needs?
