Make Way for Cyclists: Five Boro Bike Tour Is on Sunday

Head’s up if you’re driving anywhere this Sunday, May 6–the annual TD Five Boro Bike Tour is rolling through the city between 7:45am and 6:30pm. Here are the road closures:

Major closures along the route include Church St/6th Av, Madison Ave Bridge, 3rd Ave Bridge (7:30-11:30am), Southbound Harlem River Drive/FDR Drive between 132nd St and 63rd St (8:-11:30am), the upper level of the Queensboro Bridge, Pulaski Bridge, Westbound Brooklyn-Queens Expressway and Gowanus Expressway (9:00am-3:30pm) between Atlantic Avenue and the Verrazano-Narrows Bridge Lower Level.

This is the first year they’ll be staggering the starting times, letting three groups of about 11,000 people start at three different times, as they expect about 32,000 cyclists will be riding the 40-mile route.

Are any of you riding it, or have you in the past? Is it as cool to ride a bike on the BQE as it sounds?
