Madina’s Owners Will Open Two New Restaurants In Our Area
One of Coney Island Avenue’s most well known Indian / Pakistani restaurants is launching delicious satellites.
The owners of Madina are about to open two new restaurants, one in Kensington, and the other in Borough Park, right next to Maimonides Hospital, said Madina’s president, Farrukh Khan.
Both restaurants should be open in about two weeks, Khan said, “they’re almost ready to go.”
On top of everything else, Khan said, he “feels great” about creating more jobs in the area.
Khan’s new Borough Park restaurant, “Paradise,” will be located at 4904 Fort Hamilton Parkway, between 49th and 50th Streets.
Khan said he and his partner have been getting calls “every day” from staff and patients at Maimonides who are looking for halal cooking, food which is permissible under Islamic law.
Paradise will be the first halal restaurant near the hospital, Khan said. “People are telling us — ‘we can’t wait.’ There’s nothing to eat in that area [around Maimonides].”
Similarly, Khan’s new restaurant in Kensington — “Kohinoor” — responds to the growing Bangladeshi community there. Kohinoor will be located at 413 Cortelyou Road, between East 4th and East 5th Streets.
[The word “Kohinoor” refers to a very famous Indian diamond that was taken by the British in 1849, and is now reportedly on display with the British monarchy’s crown jewels.]
Both restaurants will serve halal Indian and Pakistani cuisine, said Khan, who is a native of Pakistan’s Punjab Province.
Khan and his South Indian partner opened Madina together 13 years ago. “I introduced Pakistani, Lahori food,” said Khan. “Food is very famous in Lahore [the capital of Punjab Province]…We have everything now.”
