In other retail news, mid-century modern furniture shop Joybird opened an outpost at City Point (445 Albee Square West) in Downtown Brooklyn earlier this month.

Launched in 2014, the brand creates stylish customized hand-crafted furniture inspired by design greats such as Frank Lloyd Wright, Cara Greenburg and Eero Saarinen.

Joybird is hosting an opening party on Thursday, September 27 from 6:30pm to 8:30pm. Register here.

Also recently opened at City Point is HiO, a retail concept featuring nine different businesses in one space to “test a new, smaller-format mall,” CNBC reports.

Along with the established notebook line Moleskin and NYC-based make up brand Winky Lux, the other seven HiO retailers are making their U.S. debut at the Downtown Brooklyn store. These include Parfois (women’s accessories), Campo Marzio (stationery/gifts/accessories), Hawkers (sunglasses), Compagnie de Provence (natural soaps/bath products), Emma Lomax (bags), L:A Bruket (skincare), and Skandinavisk (scented candles and diffusers).

HiO is the brainchild of the Direct Brands Group, launched in 2017 by a group of retail executives. The shop acts as an “intermediary for international businesses and e-commerce brands” hoping to open bricks-and-mortar outposts in the U.S., according to CNBC. The company has two HiO pop-up stores in Ontario and one at the Roosevelt Field Mall in Garden City, New York.
