The lawn surrounding the top of Monument Plaza in Fort Greene Park is newly re-paneled and lush as ever, and will reopen officially this Saturday, July 25 — just in time for the Fort Greene Park Jazz Festival.

The lawn panels have “been a long time coming,” wrote the Fort Greene Park Conservancy (FGPC) in an email to park-goers, who are also assured that “continued care and maintenance will ensure lush, green turn for years to come.

Here are tips from FGPC on how to make sure the lawns stay green and well-kept for many more years:

  • Monument Greene is for passive recreation only; that means no organized sports, fitness classes, barbecuing, or other impact-intensive activity. Books, blankets, and babies welcome!
  • Pets are not allowed on the panels, under any circumstances.
  • Glass bottles are not allowed.
  • The lawns will be open from 9:00am–7:30pm

“The panels will be open on a rotating basis to ensure each one has a fighting chance at establishing, and ample rest to withstand use,” added FGPC. “If you see a violation, please say something or dial 311 immediately.”

The lawn restoration is the result of a partnership between local Parks staff and the Central Park Conservancy, which sent their Five Borough Crew to help install the new lawn.
