Love Graffiti Needs a Copy Editor

Love Graffiti Needs a Copy Editor

Someone had a message for Laura, and he decided to spell it out in paint, starting at the corrugated metal wall on the northern end of Newkirk Plaza.

I’m all for fun, artistic expressions of love, and I’m certainly a fan of maps and treasure hunts, but not when it damages property (and a tree)–and when the message isn’t even spelled right, well, that’s got to be the worst.

It’s an interesting turn for that cruddy Plaza wall, though, which might lead to an improvement–something that has so far been maddeningly difficult. It’s been tricky trying to determine who is responsible for the metal walls on either end of the Plaza, and so they’ve just been standing there, looking worse all the time, despite the nice updates inside the Plaza. This might be a chance to get the Mayor’s Graffiti Free NYC program to come remove the graffiti, and perhaps scrape and repaint the whole wall. Unfortunately, the online form to make a removal request is broken. I’ll check on the process and report back.
