Local Teacher Booted From Classroom Due To Scandalous Photo

A teacher at Origins High School, one of the new schools located at the former Sheepshead Bay High School (3000 Avenue X), was removed from the classroom and sent to the infamous “rubber rooms” after a photo surfaced showing a former student kissing him on the cheek.

An Instagram photo shows physical education teacher John Ramirez looking into the camera as the former student holds his chin and kisses him on the cheek. The student graduated last year, and played on a PSAL flag football team Ramirez coached, according to the Daily News.

The paper reports:

“Everybody’s passing it around,” said an insider in the small school housed in the former Sheepshead Bay High School.

Ramirez did not respond to an email seeking comment.

“These are serious allegations, and we took swift action to remove Mr. Ramirez from the classroom,” said Education Department spokeswoman Devora Kaye.

It was unclear exactly which allegations Kaye was referencing, as was the nature of the relationship between Ramirez and [the former student].

… “The students thought it was strange that they were always together,” the school source said.

Investigators interviewed several students last week, according to the source.

Ramirez is now in one of the department’s “rubber rooms,” where he’ll continue to be paid until the investigation is complete.
