Local Favorites Featured By 2016 NY African Restaurant Week

Come on out and sample the cuisines of the African continent and diaspora.

Restaurants across Brooklyn, Manhattan and Long Island are participating in the fourth annual New York African Restaurant Week, which runs from this Sunday, October 2nd to October 16th.

Diners can enjoy lunch or dinner at over 25 “premiere” restaurants, with prix fixe, three-course menus ranging in cost from $19.95 to $35.95.

There are several special events happening as part of African Restaurant Week, including a Taste of South Africa at Fort Greene’s Madiba Restaurant this coming Tuesday (10/4) evening, along with a Food, Curl, Fashion, Shop, Swap, Dance, Eat, Mix & Mingle at Flatbush Avenue’s Brooklyn Commons on Saturday, October 9th, and an Art Expo at Brooklyn Commons on Saturday, October 15th.

[Both Saturday events at Brooklyn Commons are from 2 to 8pm.)

Kombit Bar & Restaurant, 279 Flatbush Avenue (and St. Mark’s Avenue) — “Kombit is named after the traditional farming ritual where workers unite in a collaborative—a collective effort—for the good of the community.”

Bati Restaurant, 747 Fulton Street (and S. Portland Avenue) — “traditional Ethiopian restaurant…dedicated to serving authentic delicacies that possess homemade quality flavors.”

Amarachi Prime, 189 Bridge Street (near Flushing Avenue) — “Loungey, upscale locale for African-Caribbean fusion cuisine & distinctive cocktails.”

Jollof Restaurant, 1168 Bedford Avenue (near Madison Street) — “West African restaurant specializing in Senegalese cuisine.”

Buka, 946 Fulton Street (near St. James Place) — “spicy, flavorful and unequivocally African…voted Best Nigerian Restaurant in NY.”

Madiba Brooklyn, 195 Dekalb Avenue (between Carlton Avenue and Adelphi Street) — “Modern bar & casual cafe with a menu of South African specialties & occasional live music.”

Cafe Rue Dix, 1451 Bedford Avenue (and Park Place) — “outpost for French-Senegalese cuisine, including brunch & a fixed-price option.”
