Local Crime: Robberies, Assaults & A Multiple Shooting
While many crimes are down this week (and this year overall) in the 70th Precinct, the most striking note to make in the most recent CompStat report is that felony assault and grand larceny both jumped 60% over a weeklong period. This is contrary to the 17.1% drop in felony assault since this time last year, and the 11.4% drop in grand larceny. Hopefully, it was just a fluke, and the overall downward trend will continue.
Recent incidents from the 70th Precinct blotter include:
May 26 – A man punched a woman in the face and stole her necklace at the Church Ave. subway station at 9:45am. Police are still searching for the suspect, who was described as a black man in his mid-30s wearing a light-colored hooded sweatshirt.
May 31 – A 27-year-old man was arrested for attempting to steal laundry detergent from a store on Church Avenue between Bedford and Flatbush around 11:20am, then reportedly pushing and hitting a woman who tried to stop him. After trying to keep cops from cuffing him, he was charged with robbery, criminal possession of stolen property, petit larceny, assault, attempted assault, menacing, harassment, and resisting arrest. (Brooklyn Paper)
May 31 – A 39-year-old man was arrested for hitting another man on the head repeatedly with a grilling fork at about 10:45pm on Coney Island Ave. between Foster and Ave. H. He has been charged with menacing, harassment, assault, attempted assault, criminal possession of a weapon. (Brooklyn Paper)
