Local Crime: $500 In Toiletries Stolen From 9th Street CVS

Although grand larceny still tops the most recent 78th Precinct crime report, with 13 reported instances between August 12 and 18, burglaries lead crimes over in the 72nd Precinct, with 8 reported cases.

On August 17, a 2007 Cadillac Escalade parked on 10th Street between 2nd and 3rd Ave, was stripped of its air bags, navigation system, and center console. A television and some clothing left in the car were also stolen. The victim, a Maryland resident, was visiting family in Brooklyn. (DNAinfo)

More recent crimes that are not part of the above mentioned reports include:

A house sitter taking care of a property on 12th Street between 5th and 6th Avenue found the front door open, and a window unit moved at 8pm on August 20. The sitter had last checked the home at 5pm on August 19 and told police that everything was fine. A Play Station 3 console, a Wii console, an iPod, an iPod dock, and a backpack were reported stolen. On August 22, Ismael Rivera, 36, and Sabrina Carlo, 35, were arrested after allegedly punching a CVS (9th Street between 5th and 6th Ave) employee in the face, and stealing more than $500 worth of Q-tips, deodorant, shea butter, Claritin, Motrin, NyQuil. The two have been charged with second-degree robbery. (DNAinfo)

Keep an eye on your bags. On August 23, a thief ran off with a purse found hanging on the back of a customer’s chair at Cafe Steinhof (14th Street and 7th Avenue). The purse was found near 16th Street and 7th Avenue. There is security camera footage of the theft, but no arrests have been made. (DNAinfo)
