With the heat of summer upon us, now is the perfect time to visit one of Brooklyn’s public pools. If your kids are ready to ditch the swim floats and venture to the deep end, then you’re in luck, because the Parks Department’s Learn to Swim lottery is now open.

Here’s what you need to know to register:

  • Learn to Swim lottery registration opens on Monday, July 13, and the session runs from July 23-August 6.
  • Swim lessons are free and held three days a week for two weeks, with each class being about 45 minutes. A parent or guardian must stay with their kid at all times which means if tot is picked, you’ll be getting in the water too.
  • Kids can only be entered for one class per session. If they are not picked for the initial lottery, their names will be put on a waiting list.
  • Swim lessons are for kids ages 1 1/2 to 17 years old, and the sessions are split between the ages. Be sure to select the right age group, because there’s nothing worse than getting the email that your kid has won a spot, then realizing it’s for the wrong class.
  • If your kid is selected, you’ll receive an email by Wednesday, so be sure to check your spam folders.
