Learn How You Can Help The New Q Gardens At A Meeting On Monday, October 27
Q Gardens

We just got great news: the MTA sent our neighbors working on Q Gardens a lease agreement that will allow them to start creating a community green space located on E. 18th Street, just behind the Church Avenue subway station.

Neighbor Anne Schoeneborn let us know the good news and told us that she expects the agreement to be finalized soon, after which they will begin holding work days to get the space cleaned up and transform the vacant lot that has long been an eyesore in the area.

You’ll be able to learn what you can do to help with the garden at a public meeting at the Family of Light Holistic Center (717 Coney Island Avenue, in the back room) on Monday, October 27 at 7:30pm . Everyone is welcome to attend the gathering, during which neighbors will plan their next steps – including procuring the needed building materials (with the $3,750 in grant funding the group has so far received) and what should happen during the first couple of work days.

“We would also like to put a special call out to the community to anyone with building/carpentry skills who is interested in helping with the construction,” Anne wrote. “The plans for the raised beds/benches are quite ambitious and this is a real opportunity for folks with this type of expertise to contribute to this volunteer-run project.”

If you want to contact Anne or the folks at Q Gardens, you can email them at qgardensinfo@gmail.com, and you can follow the garden’s progress on its Facebook page.
