Learn About CaribBEING & The Flatbush Film Festival
Have you heard of the Flatbush Film Festival? Neighbor Shelley Worrell, founder of non-profit organization caribBEING, started the festival in 2010 to help gain exposure and build a hub for Caribbean filmmakers and other artists to form relationships and collaborate. Now on its fourth year, the Flatbush Film Festival has attracted thousands of attendees, and earned Shelley invitations to participate in the Cannes and TriBeCa Film Festivals, the 13th Annual Summer Film Academy in Poland, and more.
CaribBEING has started a crowd funding campaign for the 2013 Flatbush Film Festival through Seed & Spark, a flexible platform that not only allows benefactors to donate financially, but also to donate services or loan necessary equipment like projectors or tripods. Those wishing to contribute financially can fulfill shares of needed items (like 1/17th of the cost of a laptop, not one out of 17 laptops), and interested parties can even help the festival by “Follow”ing them on Seed & Spark, which keeps them on the site’s front page. And, of course, donators get some cool stuff in return.
We’ll be posting an interview with Shelley next week. Until then, if a locally-grown film festival piques your interest, you may have found the place to concentrate your efforts.
