Launder, A Simpler way to do Laundry
Unless you’re one of the lucky few who has a washer/dryer in your home, lugging all your clothes to the laundromat (or even your building’s basement) can be a pain and time-consuming. Even if you are one of those few, finding a convenient time and spot to drop dry cleaning, especially in Central and Southern Brooklyn’s largely residential neighborhoods, can be challenging.
Idrees Shafi noticed that too. “I was raised in the heart of Brooklyn in the Midwood area. My family owns a laundromat where I learned the business from. We noticed plenty of people did not enjoy doing their laundry. There wasn’t a convenient way in our area.”
So he created Launder.
It’s a new, local app that gives you the ability to easily send out your laundry and dry cleaning from home. While powered by DRYV, the app is currently hyper local and exclusive to Ditmas Park/Midwood. Its service area is from Caton Ave to Ave P and McDonald Ave to Ocean Ave. If you live outside but near to the service area, email support@launderinc.com — they’d be happy to accommodate you at no charge.
As Idrees explains, “Launder is an on-demand laundry delivery service. We offer wash & fold, wash & press, and dry cleaning. You can schedule up to 7 days in advance. You receive a text message when the driver is approaching and when the driver has arrived. There is a $20 minimum but you can combine your dry cleaning with your wash and fold. We offer multiple different options for detergents, softeners and dryer sheets. Customers can let us know what their preference is in the special instructions.”
They offer eight different detergent options, six softener options, and five dryer sheet options, including (among others) Tide, Dreft, Free & Clear, Downy, Snuggle, or use of no fabric softener or dryer sheet. See their website for the full list.

To fulfill orders, Idrees has started by using his family business, Glenwood Laundromat, which he previously managed. However, he says, “we plan on partnering with other local Laundromat’s but they have to meet our standards to join our platform.”
Along with the convenience, one of the best features of the app is that you’re really supporting neighbors and local businesses. Idrees went to Brooklyn College and still lives in Midwood.

Other than the standard missing sock complaint, I’m proud to say we have not had any major complaints or mishaps.
