Last Minute Things To Do With Mom For Mothers Day This Weekend
If you haven’t made your brunch reservations for Mother’s Day, don’t worry: there’s plenty of other things to do with and for mom this weekend. We’ve compiled a few free or low-cost, but still super-awesome ones below. Happy Mother’s Day to all the moms, moms-to-be, single dads, and extra special big sisters out there!
FRIDAY, MAY 8
- Let mom kick some butt that isn’t yours at Brooklyn Brazilian Jiu Jitsu’s mommy-and-me junior class, open to moms and kids aged 12 and younger. Team up to learn how to guard, roll, break a fall, or do takedowns! No prior experience necessary. Call 718-403-0067 to register for this FREE event!
412 Myrtle Avenue (between Clinton and Vanderbilt Avenues)
SATURDAY, MAY 9
- Make Mother’s Day Flowers for one another at Habana Outpost, transforming recycled egg cartons into bouquets, while taking the opportunity to enjoy tacos and Mexican corn on the cob together out in the sun at picnic tables.
757 Fulton Street, form 11am-3p - This Mother’s Day Wine Tasting at Corkscrew Wines is perfect for the mom who loves to relax after a long day with a glass of red, rose, white, or any other wine she and her mood prefers. Enjoy bubbly, cookies, and a book talk with author/illustrator Johanna Kindvall while picking out the perfect bottle for Mother’s Day dinner. As an added bonus, most of the wines here are made by women, too, so teamwork! Participants get 10 percent off the wine when buying a book, too.
489 Myrtle Avenue, from 5-7pm
SUNDAY, MAY 10
- Mother’s Day with Bugaboo on the Cherry Esplanade at Brooklyn Botanic Garden combines two events in one: surrounding mom with gorgeous cherry blossoms for the perfect Mother’s Day photo op + giving her a chance to test out Bugaboo strollers if she or you are expecting a new baby! If she’s a gardener, there will also be plenty of gardener workshops. The event is also kid-friendly: there will be a Van Gogh-inspired children’s art station and other kid-focused events.
990 Washington Avenue from 10am-4pm. Tickets are $6-$12; free for kids under 12. - Make Mother’s Day Flowers for one another at Habana Outpost, transforming recycled egg cartons into bouquets, while taking the opportunity to enjoy tacos and Mexican corn on the cob together out in the sun at picnic tables.
757 Fulton Street, form 11am-3p
