After 2 years serving South Korean barbecue out of a tiger-striped food truck to hungry Downtown crowds, Korilla BBQ will be opening its first brick-and-mortar Brooklyn location at 2 MetroTech Center late this spring.

Founded in 2010 by Edward Song, Korilla serves Korean barbecue-inspired tacos and burritos, rice bowls, and house-made kimchi using all-natural ingredients. Korilla won “Rookie of the Year” at the 2011 Vendy Awards, which honors the top food truck vendors in the city. After dispatching 3 sought-after food trucks around New York, Korilla opened its first brick-and-mortar outpost in 2014 at 23 3rd Avenue in the East Village.

Song recently signed a 10-year lease with Forest City Ratner Companies for an 800-square-foot space at 2 MetroTech Center. In a statement, Rachel Ben-Haim of Forest City Ratner Companies says, “Korilla opening a brick-and-mortar restaurant in Downtown Brooklyn is proof positive that the neighborhood is quickly evolving into a dining destination, one that Forest City Ratner is proud to help cultivate.”

Korilla will be in good company as it joins fellow eateries, Yaso (soup dumplings), The Wei (casual Chinese), Lady’s (Italian bistro), and Black Walnut (American South/Asian fusion), which have, over the past year, either opened or announced plans to open in Downtown Brooklyn.

Song says, “As Downtown Brooklyn continues to grow and expand, so is Korilla…. We want to bring a fresh, new concept for our Brooklynites to enjoy. We’re ready to bring the neighborhood the best version of Korilla yet.”
