MILL BASIN – Earlier this morning nearly 100 units responded to what quickly became a seven-alarm fire at the Kings Plaza Mall parking garage in Mill Basin.  Kings Plaza Mall is closed.

FDNY arrived on the scene at 8:30 am to find cars on the second level of the parking lot on fire. The garage is 4 stories, and it took 600 firemen four hours to get the fire under control.

FDNY reported no casualties but 25 officers and 4 civilians were injured, treated and released according to FDNY officials around 1pm, up from previous reports of

As of 1:00 pm the fire was under control but some departments remain on site.

FDNY is continuing to assess the structural stability of the Kings Plaza garage, officials said.

Qasim Allahditta, 26, who works at Cell Dock showed up to work at 9:15 only to find the building was closed. “It’s sad,” said Allahditta. “We‘ve been waiting here for the last three hours to find out if we have work today or tomorrow.”

Steven DeClara, the mall’s manager confirmed Kings Plaza will reopen at 5:30 p.m. on Monday for retailers only. Shoppers can expect the doors to open Tuesday at 10:00 a.m. but the parking garage will remain closed until further notice.

“There was pretty significant damage,” DeClara told Bklyner. “We will have to wait until all the damage is assessed.”
