Kindergarten Application Period Now Open!

The following is a message from the New York City Department of Education:

The kindergarten application period is open through March 2, 2012. You must submit an application in order for your child to attend kindergarten at any New York City public school in September 2012, even if you are applying to your zoned school.

Your zoned school is determined by your home address. If you don’t know which school is your zoned school, type in your home address on our School Search website, or call 311.

All applications received by the March 2, 2012 deadline will be treated the same—admission is not first-come, first-served.

Who is Eligible?

Children born in 2007 who reside in New York City.

How Do I Apply?

During the kindergarten application period (January 9 – March 2, 2012), you should visit your zoned school to fill out an application. Some districts also have non-zoned or choice schools to which you can apply during the application period.

What to Bring When You Apply

  • Child’s birth certificate or passport
  • Two documents which provide proof of residence. Find a list of acceptable documents for proof of residence on our Registration Information page.

You do not need to bring your child with you when you apply.
