Girl Evades Kidnapping Attempt Near PS 399 In Flatbush
An 11-year-old girl was able to thwart an attempted kidnapping at a bus stop late Thursday afternoon in Flatbush.
At 5:40pm yesterday, a gray van pulled up in front of the girl as she was waiting for the bus near the corner of Albemarle Road and Rogers Avenue, and a man she didn’t know offered to give her a ride home, say cops. When she declined to get in, the man — who was carrying a wooden stick — stepped out of the van and tried to grab her, the girl told police. The man then got back inside the van and fled northbound on Rogers Avenue, say cops.
The girl ran back to her school, PS 399 (2707 Albemarle Road), about a block and half from the bus stop on Albemarle Road, and alerted school safety agents, who called 911, according to the NYPD.
The suspect is described by police as a black male, between 5 foot 3 inches and 5 foot 4 inches, 40 years old, and 140 pounds. He was last seen wearing a gray baseball cap, a gray sweater and gray pants.
He was allegedly driving a “very old, rusty gray van.” Police say the investigation is ongoing.
