Kestrel Removes Illegal Sidewalk Stencils, Though Some Remain

After neighbors were outraged to see Kestrel logos illegally placed throughout Windsor Terrace and Kensington, a spokesperson for the luxury development said Friday that the stencils would be removed “immediately.”

A couple neighbors checked in with us today on how Kestrel (33 Caton Place), an eight-story, 126-unit building that recently began renting apartments, is doing with the removal, and a number of people said they have seen some logos removed – though some pointed out that in place of the stencils are now whited-out circles.

Neighbor Sherry Davis told us that there are logos still on the sidewalks, at least on the Windsor Terrace side, noting she saw five on block on Greenwood, going toward the park. Additionally, she said she saw some on East 4th Street, near the community garden.

Another neighbor told us he found logos around 50 Ocean Parkway, which faces 1335 Prospect Avenue, removed Monday morning.

Walking near the Kestrel site, Sherry said she saw no more logos.

“What can it all mean?” Sherry wrote to us. “Maybe they know better than to push the project in the immediate area, where residents may have seen the Kensington stables get displaced, and have watched the metal scaffolding of the ‘upscale’ building rust for almost the past 10 years.”
