Sheepshead Bites ran a lovely piece recently on neighbor Sarah Herbst, who lives in Kensington and whose family is responsible for many stained glass installations around the area.

“I used to take a picture whenever I’d see one,” Sarah told the blog, “But there were just so many.”

A third generation stained glass maker (while her paternal great grandfather worked in the business, says Sheepshead Bites, her grandfather was the first to fabricate stained glass pieces himself), Sarah works out of a studio in Marine Park. Making windows is only of her many talents–you may recognize the name from when she used to write for our previous incarnation as the Kensington-Prospect Blog.

Today, much of Sarah’s business is in religious institutions–and you can see some of her family’s handiwork at the Flatbush Jewish Center (327 E 5th Street on the corner of Church Avenue) and other local synagogues, too.
