Kensington on Buyers’ Map

Kensington is now on the map as a “…kind of hidden secret.”

The New York Times reported in it’s Real Estate section that families are looking beyond, say, Park Slope to find affordable neighborhoods. Two-family homes with yards that cost less than Ditmas Park homes draw families to Kensington.

Gerard Splendore of Halstead Property was talking about the midcentury buildings along Ocean Parkway when he was quoted saying:

“You do need to do work. Many of the buildings are in flux,” with an older generation selling to the incoming younger group. “Some of the lobbies haven’t been touched since Ozzie and Harriet.” But the apartments often have large, wide-open floor plans, and some are in doorman buildings.“I call it gracious living,” Mr. Splendore said.

What I consider gracious living, more than open floor plans, is that a Kensington neighbor would find a diamond ring on the subway and try to reunite it and its owner.
