Kensington community leader Mamnunul Haq will be honored by the Central Brooklyn Independent Democrats (CBID) this weekend.

Haq, along with Domestic Workers United, the Muslim Community Network, the Green Wood Historic Fund, and David Pechefsky, 2015 President of the CBID, will be honored at the 47th Anniversary Dinner of the Central Brooklyn Independent Democrats, to be held Sunday evening at the Bell House in Gowanus.

Haq, who is a member of Community Board 12, has been active on a wide range of issues in our community, from organizing local taxi drivers to promoting positive relations between different religious groups to supporting projects like the new plaza at Avenue C and McDonald Avenue.

Haq also happens to be appearing in a multi-cultural celebration in Kensington this Saturday night, sponsored by the Bangladesh Institute of Performing Arts.

According to CBID president Benjamin Solotaire, Haq’s work on participatory budgeting in the 39th District made the PB process there “one of the most successful in the city.”

Perhaps most importantly, Haq is being honored for his work to help bridge cultural divides in Kensington. “He has really helped bring in the Bangladeshi community to help improve the neighborhood,” Solotaire said.
