The rain from the sky held up — but it was still raining cats and dogs.

About 150 dogs and cats were on hand for a bit of meet-and-greet as Adoptapalooza took place last Saturday, sponsored by the Petco Foundation.

The event was held in Prospect Park near Bartel-Pritchard Square and was swamped by kids and adults alike. The mega-adoption celebration included roughly a dozen rescue organizations.

In addition to the saturation of cute which had kids and adults cooing over the visitors, the event’s goals were to both encourage animal adoption and educate the public about the process.

The Department of Health (DOH) was on hand to provide dog licenses for those adopting on Saturday. And both New York City Emergency Management and Ready New York were on hand to give pet owners information about preparing for emergencies.

And while the kids got their faces painted, the event did have more serious goals — such as the Helping Pets and People In Crisis program. According to the initiative’s website, “the program attempts to provide assistance to individuals and families fleeing domestic violence; seniors requiring medical care outside of their home; and families facing eviction or other temporary setbacks.”
