George’s To Win Community Business Award
Several months after its celebrated re-opening, George’s Restaurant — our favorite neighborhood diner located at 753 Coney Island Avenue — was selected for a 2016 Community Cornerstone Business Award, the owner has told us.
Issued by the Department of Small Business Services, the award is given to NYC restaurant, retail, or personal care storefronts that have been operational for over twenty years with fewer than fifty employees.
The award comes online promotion, including a listing on the interactive city map, and educational services — plus access to business education courses. This year, George’s was nominated for the award by Councilman Mathieu Eugene.
George’s, which originally opened in the neighborhood in 1956, serves up classic “home cooking” with a five-page dinner menu and a seriously hearty breakfast. After changing hands, the cozy diner is now entirely family run, according to landlord and owner Peter-Harry Montauredes.
Congratulations to George’s on their well-deserved recognition. Be sure to stop by George’s for a comforting meal in a friendly diner setting. And in the coming weeks, look out for the window decal celebrating their new award.
