In the wise words of the venerable 50 Cent, “Go, go, go shawty/ It’s your birthday/ We gon’ party like it’s yo birthday.”
Sheepshead Bites just had its third birthday, meaning we’ve finally outgrown our terrible twos and are ready to socialize. So now we’ve got a little sister-site, Bensonhurst Bean, covering all the news in Bensonhurst. And we’re finally ready to bring y’all together for some fun and festivities!
That’s right, to celebrate the third birthday of Sheepshead Bites and the launch of Bensonhurst Bean, we’re throwing our first event!
Just like Sheepshead Bites, it’ll be fun, it’ll be free and it’ll be local.
From 8:00 p.m. to midnight on Saturday, June 18, we’ll be partying with cheap drinks, free food and music on the outdoor pier of the Baron DeKalb – Knights of Columbus (3000 Emmons Avenue, at Nostrand Avenue).
To help us celebrate us, Bassett’s Deli and Caterers (1404 Avenue X) is throwing in a couple of ginormous subs and salads to keep the party fed. Topping it off, Cupcake Kings (1613 Voorhies Avenue) will be providing some of their scrumptious sweets.
The Baron itself is offering us low prices on its cash bar, with beers costing just $3.00!
And we’re also inviting three local bands to play for the audience. We’ve got one booked so far and are reaching out to others – so if you’d like to be considered, give us a holler!
That very same day is the Mermaid Parade in Coney Island. So go hit up the parade during the day, then come to the party to sit outside on the water, sip some cold beers, and listen to good local music. Tables will be set up beer hall style, so bring a large group with you.
Just to emphasize this free bit: entrance to the event is totally free, as is the food and the music. The drinks have a charge. We will be asking for donations at the door, with a suggested donation of $5.00 a person to help cover costs and replenish our freelancer budget. So, please, bring lots of people and give freely, as we’ve been doing for you for three years!
