WILD for Prospect Park

Fall migration is upon us – and neighbors are going to be gathering Saturday morning to create a clean, safe haven for Prospect Park’s avian residents (as well as those passing through).

Members of WILD for Prospect Park, a community group that works with the Prospect Park Alliance to advocate for the well-being of wildlife in the park, will host their next lakeside cleanup and visitor outreach this Saturday, September 20 from 10am-12pm. Those interested in helping are asked to please arrive by 9:45am to pick up supplies.

This month, the group will focus on the Ocean Avenue/Parkside Avenue side of the lake, where members will scan the banks for such harmful debris as plastic, fishing line, and hooks. They’ll also speak to park goers about the effects of feeding waterfowl and how we can all become better stewards of the park’s wildlife.

For those who plan on attending, meet at the rustic shelter near the Ocean Avenue/Parkside Avenue entrance to the park.

Also, heads up – every prospective volunteer must fill out a volunteer application, which you can do here. Children under the age of 14 can join Saturday’s group, but they need to be accompanied by an adult. And, for volunteers between the ages of 14 and 17, they must submit a signed parental consent form, which can be found here. For more information about volunteering, go here.
