Join The Windsor Terrace Greenmarket For An Apple Pie Bake-Off (And New Fall Produce)

Fall has arrived at GrowNYC’s Windsor Terrace Greenmarket – which means it’s apple time!

If you happen to be an apple aficionado, you can join the Windsor Terrace Greenmarket Apple Pie Bake-Off, which will be held on Sunday, October 12. You can sign up at the market, which takes place each Sunday at 11th Avenue, between Sherman and Windsor Place, from 9am to 3pm. Or, to show off your home-made pie at the bake-off (which will be judged by market-goers), you can email the market manager, Gabriella Stern at gstern@grownyc.org.

The market’s manager also reminded us that this month is a good time to store up for the winter – you can collect those last heirloom tomatoes, beans, and peppers and can or jam away!

Gabby also let us know about a bunch of new products at the market, including pumpkins, kabocha and delicata squash, different varieties of potatoes, and salad greens. If you’re not sure how to cook with fall harvest veggies, you can visit the info tent every Sunday for recipes highlighting market produce.

For those using EBT/SNAP benefits, the Health Bucks program is in full swing until November 15 – which means that for every $5 EBT purchased from the market, a $2 coupon for fruits and vegetables is available. The market also accepts WIC/FMNP checks. If you’re not sure if you qualify for EBT/SNAP, you can go to the info booth to learn how and where to get screened for eligibility for a variety of programs.
