Jewish Brothers Attacked After Yom Kippur Services In Mill Basin, Reports Say
While walking home from the Flatbush Park Jewish Center in Mill Basin at about 3:45pm on Wednesday, two Jewish brothers, dressed in yarmulkes and prayer shawls, were attacked by a group of three men, according to the police and the Daily News.
The Deputy Commissioner of Public Information’s (DCPI) report of the incident only had one victim in the assault, but police sources told the News that there were two victims and they were brothers, aged 19 and 23.
The assault is being investigated by police as a hate crime, according to DCPI.
The group of three men first said anti-Semitic slurs to the brothers at East 66 Street near Strickland Avenue, according to the News, and the older brother defended him and his sibling by saying, “It’s our holiday.”
The older brother then apparently touched one of them, which led to them punching the brother in the face. The assailants, who were all white, then ambushed the brothers. The older brother suffered bruised ribs and a cut in his mouth, and the younger brother got a busted lip and bruises on his eye, according to the News.
The attackers are said to be in their 20s. One was wearing a white t-shirt; another a pink t-shirt; and the third was wearing a Pink Floyd t-shirt, according to the News. DCPI, however, had no clothing description for the assailants.
Hatzolah ambulance took the older brother to New York Community Hospital and paramedics treated the younger brother, according to the News.
