Italian Restaurant Coming to Cortelyou Road This Fall

A local husband and wife team is opening up an Italian restaurant on Cortelyou Road, in the former Carmen 2002 beauty salon, with work to begin on the space in August.

“We are very excited to finally be in business in our neighborhood,” Anna da Silva and Mauro Servisi tell us. “We have lived in Ditmas for 10 years and have been waiting for the right opportunity to lease a space.”

The pair says that the concept of the restaurant will be the same as their other locations, Pepe Rosso and Pepe Giallo, both located in Manhattan. They’ll have a small dinning room for sit down service that will feature “simple, affordable Italian food without pretense,” they say, and they’ll offer take-out and delivery.

Based on the reviews of their other restaurants, we’re really in for a treat. The New York Times said Pepe Rosso is “one of the few restaurants in New York that serve a proper spaghetti carbonara,” and that Mauro “makes what is almost a perfect sandwich: bresaola, or air-cured beef, with goat cheese, arugula and truffle oil on circular focaccia.”

Thanks to neighbor Cara, a big Pepe Roso fan, for the tip. She says:

Personally, I’m ecstatic! My coworkers and I go to Pepe Roso in SoHo for lunch every Friday. Ever since the owner told me he lived in DP I’ve been anxious for him to open something close to home! I think it’ll be a great fit for the neighborhood.

Congratulations to our neighbors–we’re really looking forward to the new restaurant!
