Is Park Slope Home To The Greenest Block In Brooklyn?
The race is on to win the title of Greenest Block in Brooklyn! Neighborhood and merchant associations are invited to enter their residential and commercial blocks, and the Greenest Storefront, Best Street Tree Beds, Best Window Box, and Best Community Garden Streetscapes will also be recognized. Blocks will be judged on criteria including the variety and sustainability of plants, soil and mulching, horticultural practice, citizen participation, and creativity.
Last year, Park Slope got three mentions:
• 8th Street Block Association (between 8th Avenue & PPW), Residential
• Sterling Place Block Association (between Flatbush & 7th Avenues), Residential
• Sterling Place Block Association (between Flatbush & 7th Avenues), Best Tree Beds
Blocks and other winners will receive gardening tools or cash prizes up to $300. The deadline to enter is June 1, so get to planting.
