In Remembrance Of Asghar Choudhri

It is with sadness we acknowledge the loss of neighbor Asghar Choudhri, who passed away earlier this week. Between his roughly 15 years on Community Board 14, over two decades as a Clergy Liaison with the 70th Precinct, and work supporting local businesses as President of the Pakistani Merchants Association, Asghar was an incredible ally to our area and the people in it.

Community Board 14 Chairman Alvin Berk offered his admiration for Asghar, who was CB14’s first Pakistani board member–and a very dedicated member in general.

“He was very proud to be a member of Community Board 14, and he was very loyal to the board. It wasn’t just showing up to meetings. I think that really characterizes him. We’re going to miss him,” said Chairman Berk, who lauded the importance of Asghar’s work founding and helping to organize cultural events including nearby Pakistan Independence Day celebrations, as well as bridging the gap between the local Pakistani population and government groups.

“Mr. Choudhri was a gracious and an honorable man in the Pakistani Community,” said COPO Executive Director Mohammad Razvi. “His efforts and commitment has inspired many community members to do great in the community. We will all miss him and his legacy will live on in the community members he has inspired.”

Our local authorities also spoke of how Asghar has left, and will continue to leave, a lasting mark on our area.

“He was considered family, and a friend to the members of the 70th Precinct. His legacy will live on through his contributions and commitment to building a positive partnership with the 70th Precinct, and will be used as a guide for future issues. As we mourn our Loss we would also like to extend our heart felt condolences to the Choudhri family and the members of the Pakistani community.”

Our deepest condolences as well to Asghar’s family, friends, and anyone who benefitted from his devotion to those around him. If you have any thoughts or memories to share about Asghar, you are welcome to do so below.
