Illustration Of The Day: A Dream Of Cortelyou

Illustration Of The Day: A Dream Of Cortelyou

Neighbor and designer/illustrator Hermes Arriola sent us this illustration of his perfect Cortelyou.

“This was somewhat of a dream that my ex and I had together,” he says. “Although we’re not together, I still dream about it.

“Lisa is the girl on the far left and I’m next to her. We always dreamt of starting a business in some of the empty storefronts on Cortelyou,” he says. “We wished there was an ice cream parlor on the block so I created one (Cortelyou needs an ice cream shop), and the sandwich shop is a dream she had where she could blend art and food at the same place.

“The rest of the people are our friends who’ve come and visited the area, and loved the idea of new businesses booming like a wine and cigar bar where  people can hang out and relax. My friend is from West Virginia and always talked about having a place that served nice home-cooked Southern meals, so I created a diner.”

Hermes says the illustration is a tribute to Lisa, “to let her know how awesome she is.”

We could totally back an ice cream shop around here, and The Fat Beagle is definitely set to cook up some food a West Virginian might enjoy. But if you could illustrate yourself a main drag in Ditmas Park, what would you put on it?
