Police charged a Coney Island resident with a hate crime after he allegedly chased four Pakistani men in Marine Park Saturday night while screaming “I want to see Arab blood in the streets.”
The Daily News reports that James Samways, who works as a janitor and UPS worker, was arraigned Sunday and charged with menacing as a hate crime. He is held on a $3,000 bond.
Cops say Samways approached the four men, who are Pakistani, not Arab, just after 9pm near the corner of East 33rd Street and Avenue S. He motioned as if he had a firearm, the victims told police, and then chased them down the street.
Samways also allegedly shouted: “I am an Israeli! Go back to Mecca!”
Cops found and arrested Samways after a canvass of the neighborhood. He was unarmed at the time of his arrest, police say.
