Hurricane Sandy Victims Brace For Nor’easter
After bearing the brunt of Hurricane Sandy, New York is yet again preparing for a storm. Though meteorologists say that the nor’easter may be weaker than first expected, Mayor Michael Bloomberg has still decided to close city parks and beaches. He’s also stated that he will attempt to evacuate some residents in low-lying areas.
“Even though this is not anywhere near as strong as Sandy, or even strong enough to get us to evacuate in normal circumstances, we are going to ask a few people to go to higher ground,” Bloomberg said to the New York Daily News.
For those still recovering from Sandy, another storm is a frightening prospect. Heavy rain is due to start Wednesday and continue through Thursday. It may snow as well.
“I can’t believe it. We don’t even have heat and now we have snow. I am scared to stay in my apartment,” said a resident of the Surfside Gardens Housing Project at West 31st Street in Coney Island, an area that was hard hit by Sandy and is still without electricity or heat.
Red Cross put out some advice on how to prepare for a possible nor’easter here. Please take a look and if you know someone in a building complex without heat, consider opening your home to them for the time being.
