Hunger Pang Tops List Of Most Anticipated Restaurant Openings in Brooklyn This Fall
Medwin Pang, the owner of Hunger Pang, a “new American-Asian” restaurant that will soon open at 1021 Church Avenue, emailed us with some exciting news: Brooklyn Based just named Hunger Pang as one of the top 10 restaurant openings to look forward to this fall!

In response to Grub Street’s claim that there are no “big-deal” restaurants opening in our borough this fall (ugh), Brooklyn Based gave a rundown of what they’re looking forward to – and Hunger Pang makes it into the number one spot on the list. The website also includes Bluebird Food and Spirits (504 Flatbush Avenue), which is a new venture from Ox Cart Tavern’s Jim Mamary, and Nutelleria in Park Slope, among a bunch of other delicious-sounding spots.
From Brooklyn Based:
So Grub Street says there are no “big-deal” restaurants opening in Brooklyn this fall because the rents here are no longer cheap enough to attract exiled Manhattanites. To me, this analysis misses the entire point of the Brooklyn restaurant scene. There have never been “big” restaurant openings in Brooklyn. This is where small restaurants open and then become a big deal. Was Roberta’s a big-deal opening? Was Buttermilk Channel or Marlow and Sons? No, they were unknown openings in far-flung neighborhoods that then became big because the food, ambiance and attitude was better than any of those “big-deal” spots across the river. It’s hard to know where the borough’s next big thing will pop up next, but there are no shortage of newcomers on the horizon.
We haven’t heard yet when Hunger Pang will officially open its doors (they’re still working on licensing and permits), but whenever it happens, you can bet we’ll be there, stuffing our faces.
Congratulations to Medwin, Jim, and everyone else!
